New Sony PSP?????

There have been a ton of rumors about Sony prepping a new PSP and here is yet another one. There are some interesting things in this article that makes me believe the information may be a bit more concrete.

I really like the look of this if it is indeed going to look like this. I cannot believe they still are not going to give us a second analog stick! If this thing had 2 analog stick it would be perfect for 1st and 3rd persons shooters. With just the one I always found it awkward to play those types of games.

As many of you know I recently sold my PSP. Maybe I got out at the right time. Now I can get the new and cooler version later this year.

Squidoo

Check out my profile page on Squidoo. I will be using Squidoo to post reviews and guides that appear on my two blogs. I figure that the visitors that Squidoo attracts do not want to scour blog posts for the information that they are looking for but instead just want to do a quick search in one place and find the info they want. I am hoping that this will also bring in more readers here as well.

Check out my profile on Squidoo! You will find my lenses at the bottom of my profile page.

Time Warner drops plan to cap internet use.

Time Warner has decided against its plans to cap their customers internet usage. This is great news for anyone who ever goes online. I do not think other internet companies can be successfull in light of Time Warner's failure. I use Comcast and have a 250 GB cap which is reasonable but should be eliminated. Maybe this will spur Comcast to drop their cap as well. Personally, I use a lot of bandwidth a month and all for LEGAL reasons. I have my Netflix subscription and I also subscribe to MLB.tv so I stream a huge amount of data every day. Let us just hope that this will be the last we here of usage caps.

Is the Zune HD real?

There have been a ton of stories on the rumored Zune HD. No one knows if it is real or fake and Microsoft is not saying a word. If this thing is real and it does what the rumors are saying it does this could easily be the best player out there. Microsoft is due for a really good piece of hardware and this could be it. Now they just need to fix the Zune marketplace because that thing is a mess!

iPhone - Star Trek Countdown

As most of you probably already know there is a new Star Trek movie coming out this summer. It takes place before the original Star Trek series and we get to see how all of the main characters became who they are. From what I have seen so far it does look like it may be good.

So I was looking through the app store on my iPhone and came across a Star Trek Countdown application. At first I thought it was just going to be some dumb counter telling me how many days I have to wait to see the movie. To my surprise it was actually a comic book series that is a prequel to the new movie! For .99 cents I thought it would be worth it to check out.

The comic book has 91 pages so there is a good deal to read here. The illustrations are great and I am really enjoying the story. I think only fans of the Star Trek universe will be interested in the story so if Star Trek is not your thing then there is nothing really to see here. You have three options as to how you move through the "pages". You can set them to slide, fade or flip. I personally find the fade effect the most pleasing. There are 4 episodes so far and each costs a buck so if you get hooked you will need to spend several dollars to read everything. I have only checked out the first one but I will be downloading the rest as I think it is worth it.

Happy Easter - The Masters - iPhone

For my readers who celebrate Easter I hope you all have a very happy day! For those that do not celebrate Easter I hope you have a great Sunday.

Anyone going to watch the Masters? I am heading out to my girlfriends house where I hope to catch some of the action but I know golf is not for everyone so I will not bore them too much. This will also provide me an opportunity to check out The Masters iPhone application. For those golf fans out there that own an iPhone you can download the app for free from the App Store. I played with it a bit at work on Thursday and Friday but I did not have a good 3G signal so the quality of the stream suffered. You can watch live action from 5 different holes on the course. They also have a leader board so even if you do not want to stream you can take a quick peak as to who is winning!

Enjoy!

Just a reminder that soon I will only be posting on the Morrotech blog so if you want to continue to follow me click here and sign up. Thanks!

Asus 1000HE Review

I have been using my new Asus 1000HE for about a week now and I can say without a doubt that this netbook is a winner. Everything about this machine is fantastic. It looks great, performs better than expected and has the perfect price point at just under 400 dollars.

The netbook market is very crowded. Just about every manufacturer is now making netbooks including the big boys like Dell and HP. Asus was a pioneer in this market segment and their experience has definitely paid off with the 1000HE.

The first thing you will notice is that the 1000HE is a great looking netbook. The high gloss black finish on the outside makes this machine look like a million bucks. The chasis feels very solid and there is no flex in the keyboard. Everything here is made very well. It does weigh more than most netbooks at 3.2 pounds but that includes the 6 cell battery so it is acceptable.

The 1000HE uses the new Atom 1.66 GHz (667MHz FSB) processor which is a incremental improvement over the standard Atom 1.6 GHz. Honestly, I couldn't see a difference. The 1000HE does perform very well though. Asus preloads the 1000HE with Star Office which runs very well. I also installed Word and Excel 2007 and the 10000HE handled them just fine.

I mainly use the 1000HE for internet access while commuting. I have an hour long train ride each way to work so having the ability to go online is really nice. The 10 inch screen is the sweet spot for netbooks and the 1000HE's does not disappoint. The matte black screen looks great and is easily viewable in direct sunlight.

The 1000HE also comes standard with a 160GB hard drive, 1.3 megapixel web cam, Built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for easy wireless connectivity. It also has 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x VGA port, 2 x Audio input/output ports, 1 x RJ-45 port, Kensington Lock port. The new chiclet-style keyboard is 92% the size of regular notebooks keyboard which makes it very comfortable to type on.

The battery life on this netbook is phenomenal. Asus claims that it gets 9 hours per charge but a more realistic number is about 7.5 hours. That is a long time between charges and plenty to get through an entire day while mobile.

The touch pad supports multi touch. You can do all sorts of neat things just by using the pad. For example, you can zoom in and out of pictures by pinching your fingers together. I am not a big fan though as you can sometimes trigger the wrong command by accident which is frustrating. Luckily, the options are configurable so you can shut off certain commands while leaving the ones you want to use on.

If you are in the market for a netbook then definitely give the Asus 1000HE a look, you will not be disappointed.

New Blog - Morrotech

I have decided to start writing another blog. The new blog is called Morrotech and you can find it at the link below. Amoretech will be updated from time to time but the bulk of new material will be on Morrotech. The look and feel of the new blog will be almost identical to this one so the impact to my readers will be minimized.

Paypal Phish Alert

If you are a Paypal user then you most likely have at some point received emails claiming that your access has been cut off or your account needs to be verified again. They include a nice little "convenient" link that you are supposed to click on and enter in your log in information. While the emails are usually pretty convincing one telltale sign that it is a phish attempt is that they do not use your name or only use your first name.

Well, today I received one of those emails from Paypal but this time they used my entire FULL legal name which I rarely ever use. I NEVER click links in any emails so I went to my Paypal account by typing in Paypal's URL. I logged in and to my surprise my account was just fine! I am not entirely sure how they got my information but I recently received payment from an ebay user through paypal. I will investigate when I get home and let you know if I figure out where this email came from.

Asus 1000HE

Well, I sold my Dell Mini 9 to a friend and bought myself a new Asus 1000HE netbook. I will post a full review soon but just wanted to quickly say how awesome this netbook is! I haven't found anything I do not like yet. If you are thinking about getting a netbook I can say without question that the 1000HE is the best of the bunch.

Call Hunter - find out who is calling you!

Ok, now this is a website that I really like. There is nothing I hate more than having a call come in from a number that I am not familiar with and does not include the callers name. I think to myself, have I missed a bill somewhere and someone is calling to collect? Is this a friends second line that I am not familiar with? I do not want to answer but my curiousity sometimes gets the best of me and I pick up only to find out that it is some telemarketer trying to sell me a subscription to something I have no interest in. This is where Call Hunter comes in.

Call Hunter lets you to plug in any number and do a little research before you pick up. It will tell you the location of the number and show information from real people who have had experience with the number in the past. The site is free to view as well as post your own experiences with particular phone numbers. You do not need to leave any personal information or even an email address. Just post a bit of information on who called and for what reason. It is a great way to help fight back against telemarketers and collection agencies!

I really like this service and it has already come in handy! So take a look and try it out for yourself!

MLB.TV is far from HD quality but....

Last night I checked out the Yankees vs Cubs using my new MLB.TV subscription and came away far from impressed. While it was completely watchable the quality of the picture was by no means "near HD". My Internet connection is fantastic. MLB.TV states that you need at least 768 kbps and according to their sites test of my internet connection I have 8352 kbps so there is no pipeline reason I should not be getting the near HD stream. It was just the first game and it is still preseason so perhaps they are still working out a few issues. There is another Yankee game on today at 1 so I will see how that one looks.

There are some really neat feature that MLB.TV provides that the Extra Innings package could never. First, as a premium subscriber you have access to your your DVR so you can pause the live broadcast or rewind to see a play again. Another great feature is the highlight button. While you are watching a game you click this button and it will list the best plays of the game up till that point. You click on which highlight you want to see and it opens a PIP window in the corner and plays the highlight. You also have access to a live box score that updates with the action. These little extras really add a lot to the experience of watching the game.

So far I would give MLB.TV 3 out 5 stars. It is a good alternative to the Extra Innings package and just about half the price. If they can work on stabilizing the stream and actually give me "near HD" then this service will get a 5 out 5 from me.

Pros:
Nice interface
Can watch up to 4 games at once
Highlight replay PIP is really cool
Tons a live game stats

Cons:
Picture quality - No where near HD and sometimes not even a solid SD picture. It is very watchable though for baseball fans. While this is really the only con for me it is a BIG one and prevents this service from stomping the Extra Innings package into the ground.

MLB.TV is a go!

Well, since Comcast has completely let me down once again by not offering their baseball package in HD I have decided to go with MLB.TV this year for my baseball fix. I tried them a few years back and was not pleased with the quality of the picture but from what I have been reading the service is much improved. They claim that they can offer a near HD picture so we will see. I will let you know my thoughts once I have watched some games.
